Detail

The Bizkaia Provincial Council has launched a new campaign to bring the KirolaON tool closer to children who take part in school sport. In the coming weeks, a total of 46,000 schoolchildren will receive an information letter and a keyring featuring the image of the tool at their homes. In addition, with the same aim, the Provincial Council has produced information posters, as well as specific signs, which will be placed in sports facilities across the territory in collaboration with local councils and sports organisations.

The goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of KirolaON directly among young people, inviting them to use it in the event of any doubts, discomfort or suspicions they may have, even anonymously and without obligation.

Created in 2024, KirolaON is an open, fast and confidential communication channel whose aim is to improve the well-being of children in the field of sport. It enables the comprehensive and coordinated management of any situation involving possible violence or distress, offering educational solutions, referral of serious cases and support to athletes, their clubs and those responsible for child protection.

The tool is backed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals specialising in child protection, who act from the moment the communication is received through to its resolution, always with a preventive and educational approach.

Service performance

Since its launch on 3 October 2024, KirolaON has been used continuously by individuals, clubs and institutions. In the first year of its implementation, 440 communications were received relating to 144 cases, three of which were referred to the courts.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, 49 communications have already been recorded, most of them submitted by adults (family members, coaches or team representatives). With this new campaign, the Provincial Council aims to encourage use of the service by children themselves.

Action in clubs and matches

Furthermore, to strengthen awareness in the sports with the highest participation levels, such as football and basketball, banners bearing the word Errespetua, or “respect”, will be distributed among school sports clubs. These will be displayed by teams before matches in order to raise awareness among spectators and promote a more respectful sporting environment. According to the data, this is where the highest number of incidents occur. In the last academic year, 13 cases of incidents in the stands were detected, making it the third most common form of violence, and for this reason, the Department of Sports of the Bizkaia Provincial Council has decided to take specific preventive action.
