Detail

The Directorate-General of Sport of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, together with the Bizkaia Mountaineering Federation and as part of the Kirolur programme, is organising a trek across Bizkaia’s five Montes Bocineros in a seven-stage journey that will start in Pagomakurre, near Mount Gorbeia, and finish at the summit of Mount Ganekogorta.

The initiative aims to promote outdoor sports, awareness of the region’s natural and cultural heritage and public participation through an experience open to everyone. Over seven days, participants will explore some of Bizkaia’s most iconic sites, following the route of the historic Montes Bocineros.

The organisers have sought to emphasise the open and participatory nature of the activity, encouraging the public to join the walkers on any of the planned stages. Those interested may complete the full route for each day or simply join the climb to the respective summit, returning afterwards to their point of departure.

The KIROLUR programme therefore continues to promote outdoor sporting activities that combine physical exercise, social interaction and appreciation of the environment, in collaboration with leading organisations in Bizkaia’s mountaineering community such as the Bizkaia Mountaineering Federation.

The sound of the horn, which, according to tradition, was used in the past to announce the start of meetings held in Gernika, will guide participants on the ascent to one of Bizkaia’s most iconic summits. Following the successive ascents in previous years to Gorbeia, Oiz, Kolitza and Sollube, Ganekogorta will take over this year as the mountain at the heart of this historic event.
