Which municipality will be crowned champion of the spring league? We’ll find out the answer on 17 May

The Kirolur Challenge, promoted by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, is proving to be a great success with high levels of participation and a significant volume of recorded activity, establishing itself as one of the most dynamic initiatives for the promotion of physical activity in the region.

Some 5,000 people have joined the challenge to date, generating 20,090 recorded activities and accumulating over 238,502 kilometres of active travel.

The challenge currently involves the participation of 60 municipalities in Bizkaia, which compete against each other through a dynamic ranking system based on points earned from the kilometres recorded by their teams. This format, which includes weighting criteria based on population, allows the competition to be balanced and encourages the presence of municipalities of various sizes in the top positions.

At present, the top ten of the provisional ranking is made up of the following municipalities:

  1. Laukiz
  2. Loiu
  3. Karrantza Harana
  4. Errigoiti
  5. Muskiz
  6. Bermeo
  7. Areatza
  8. Gordexola
  9. Zierbena
  10. Usansolo

The ranking remains wide open and may change during these final days, so every recorded activity could be decisive for the final result.

Beyond the data, the Kirolur Challenge is demonstrating the potential of sport as a tool for community participation. The pooling of individual efforts towards a common goal, improving the standing of the chosen municipality, is generating sustained participation and a greater commitment to active lifestyles.

The Kirolur Challenge Challenge spring league will end on 17 May, so there’s still time to participate and earn points before the close of this first phase.

At Kirolbide PRO we encourage the people of Bizkaia to join the Kirolur Challenge and be part of this inter-municipal league, an initiative that turns everyday physical activity into a collective, participatory and healthy community experience.

Walking, running, cycling or recording other active journeys can help to earn points for each municipality and, at the same time, contribute to adopting more active habits in daily life.

The spring league will end on 17 May, meaning that this is the last week to participate, record activity and earn points before the close of this first phase.

The Kirolur Challenge doesn’t end with this initial phase. The initiative runs throughout the year across three distinct stages, which helps to maintain participation and engagement with the competition over several months.

Following the spring phase, which ends on 17 May, , the league will continue in summer, from 15 June to 15 July, and will conclude in autumn, from 23 September to 23 October. A format that reinforces the continuity of the challenge and encourages the adoption of physical activity habits among the public.

There are just a few days left to take part in the spring league. So, what are you waiting for? Join the challenge!
