Details

The Bizkaia Provincial Council’s school sport programme has launched a new campaign to promote appropriate conduct in the stands. Through this initiative, banners bearing the slogan “Errespetua” (Respect) have been distributed to 120 basketball clubs, 43 handball clubs and 198 football clubs, with the aim of encouraging responsible and respectful attitudes among the public.

The banners will be displayed from today, before and during matches, with the aim of raising public awareness and reinforcing an educational, safe and respectful sporting environment. According to the KirolaON tool developed by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, 13 incidents were detected in the stands during the last academic year, with one of the most frequent types of violence being that related to spectator behaviour.

Data from recent months also reflect an increase in incidents linked to spectator behaviour, which highlights the need to make the sporting environment a more respectful one. For this reason, the Provincial Council has printed and distributed banners to be displayed during school sport matches, reinforcing the message and demonstrating the commitment of everyone involved to school sport based on coexistence and respect.

Main objectives of the initiative

  1. To abide by refereeing decisions and refrain from protests or inappropriate conduct.
  2. Not to act as a coach from the stands, respecting the role of each participant.
  3. Adherence to the Provincial Council of Bizkaia’s "Ten Rules for Being a Good Spectator".
  4. To remember that the main objective of school sport is for children and adolescents to enjoy themselves, learn and grow regardless of results.
